It seems to me we live in a world often viewed as upside down, backwards and inside out, given the chaos, crime, hatred, greed, deception, suffering, warfare, poverty, starvation, and terrorism, not to mention the amount of disease and overall health issues many people suffer. Still, as I look at my list, I believe we still live in a world where we can find inspiration, friendship, love, joy, kindness and true values when we look for it.
I had a dear friend who just came through a health crisis that could easily have taken his life, yet he was able to list countless blessings in his life. His strength through his faith and love of life is an inspiration to those around him. It gives those who are filled with distress and sadness, a glimmer of hope in all that is good!
Another friend is suffering cancer, yet she doesn’t look at the world negatively. Her illness is what is real, but because of her outlook on life, is able to be an inspiration to others. Some families are faced with an unexpected job loss or death of loved ones. Still, we are a people who can have a positive outlook if we choose to!
A grateful heart has a way of changing how we view the world. Issues don’t have to be about “us.” We all have problems we encounter on a variety of levels, whether it’s work, financial, health or family issues. It’s how we deal with the issues that matter. When our perspective is on the positive side of life, rather than from the negative, our perception and then our response or reaction is completely different. Very often when we can understand we are not alone, or that someone else likely has a worse situation than we face, we can better put our own problems into perspective.
I challenge you to think of ways you can demonstrate and express gratitude for all you have this Thanksgiving.
That said, I wish everyone an incredibly Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!
