The rain stopped and then we witnessed an even more amazing sight. Behind us the sky was black with clouds, yet across the sky, against this darkness, we were presented the clearest, most beautiful double rainbows we’d ever seen! What an incredible gift! Sadly, it didn't occur to me at the time to take a photograph!
Rainbows aren’t only a gift for our eyes. This light, liquid and gas interaction, in the scientific world provides a useful warning of chemical contamination in the air; they can have an effect on the development of greater effectiveness in combustion engines; and even help with the process of how to create better concrete!1
Additionally, they offer insight to size and shape of raindrops which could ultimately allow rainbows to be used as optical sensing tools in the analytics of rain! Depending on how rain drops are shaped as they fall, it can change the appearance of the rainbow, especially since rainbows are short-lived!1
What I find interesting, however, isn't the scientific data that can be gleaned, but what the colors of the rainbow may represent. My faith leads me to apply spiritual meanings. I know people have their own ideas about colors, but I came across some thoughts worth sharing. Please understand, the points I’m sharing about each color is not nearly all the possibilities for each; just a few!
Red is associated with passion and enthusiasm. Orange represents creativity and playfulness, while yellow is related to wisdom and energy. Green signifies growth and balance, while blue conveys Spirituality and Divinity given the expanse of the sky and oceans. Indigo conveys a calming sense with self-awareness. And finally violet, is expressive of imagination and inspiration.2
Colors have a definite impact on each of us. I know even the colors of clothes I wear can have an impact on how I feel. There are days when wearing a good deal of black makes me feel elegant and classy, other times it’s depressing and sad! Orange can be a fun color to wear, other times I feel gaudy and ugly in it!
Even the colors of the sky can have an impact on our day. A sunny (yellow) day usually makes a person feel full of life and vitality, where a gray day gives us the feeling of gloominess and down trodden!
People are even known to be very specific about the color of vehicle they own. Some will only own a red car because it gives them a sense of adventure and sportiness, while a tan vehicle exudes business and professionalism. Black can hint of wealth or more on the “villainous” side!
Babies even have a color code! If a baby is in pink, you can usually assume the little one is a girl, while boys are usually dressed in blue.
So I challenge you to take a good look at the next rainbow you see! First bask in the beauty of it, then consider the colors. What is your favorite when you see it? Does your favorite ever change, depending on how you feel or circumstances? Please share your thoughts!
