I don’t know that I’ve ever seriously thought about the scientific process in having dogs, cats, horses, other animals or plants stay in a pure line; or the process of crossing lines to create the desired characteristics. In the plant world, this “crossing” is designed to create higher crop yields and resistance to diseases, ensuring the crop will be higher quality and sell for more over the long term.
This breeding process, whether it be in the plant world or for animals, may take several attempts with different parents until the offspring develop the “perfect” or at least the most desired characteristics. In the animal world It may be increasing milk yield in cows; longer, silkier fur on the alpaca, or any other desired trait that in the human mind, needs to be perfected. 1
Sometimes it takes several attempts, with different parents, or even offspring to get just the right organisms to work which will create the desired effect. When the attempt is successful, the “offspring” is called a hybrid. What’s also interesting, is even vehicles can be hybrids! Consider the idea of crossing a gas engine with an electric one! Through precise engineering car "characteristics" can be configured to be very economical, have a good deal of quality power along with other objectives the creator may desire.
What really rattles my cage, however, is when we begin talking about the idea of “selective breeding” in humans. According to Sergey Baranov in an article called, “Eugenics – Selective Breeding of the Human Herd,” this idea has been around since Ancient Sparta , 2,700 years ago when the “state” made the decision to rid themselves of unfit and undesirable children. Their efforts of “selective breeding” was focused on a high quality of superior military training among their population. The result in Sparta, in ancient Greece, was a domineering and leading military nation. This practice of "selective breeding" continued until a systematic destruction of the family unit took place, for the “common good and perfection of the state.” 2
The article goes on to discuss how two doctors have been exposed for performing abortions for the sole purpose of gender selection. Apparently the women were carrying little girls and not desired since they were not of the male gender. 3 For me, that is beyond shameful, deplorable, or disgraceful! I can’t even think of a word that qualifies for how awful wrong that is. It’s murder! What kind of world do we live in, where the wrong gender for a tiny infant merits death?
According to an article in “Baby Center” it is now possible to have a say in the gender selection of your child at conception. It has to do with high tech fertility treatments for parents who want to “balance their family” and use artificial insemination for the desired results. Apparently scientists are able to determine which embryos are healthy as well as, which are male or female. Data shows 100% effectiveness. 3
But I wonder has our world degenerated so far that selective breeding in humans is considered decent? Is it not possible to love a child, regardless of it’s gender? Am I the only one who feels this way?
